NORMALIZATION OF DEVIANCE

For the last (6) six months most of us have been involved and participating in a deep exhaustive study of literature associated with recovery from the disease of addiction and the hidden symptoms of it that continue to plague us after many years of abstinence from the usage of the chemicals, yet still finding ourselves still suffering from the demands of the hidden symptoms, and we believe that most agree it has been hard work, but very rewarding both spiritually and emotionally.

But, there is more work to do if we want to truly want to have the type of recovery that offers unlimited growth. A deeper incision must be made into that place where the disease has covered up our “private pain” and continues to corrupt our “spiritual evolution”. Therefore, we will continue to do the work now utilizing the “normalization of deviance” process to identify those areas of our lives and recovery where it is clear to us we are still indulging ourselves in the defects that brought us to the program in the first place. This exec rise will require some deep contemplation emotionally and spiritually to answer the quiz questions, but the work is yours to do.

1) What area(s) of your lives or recovery have you become comfortable with deviating from your own principles? Career, Relationships, Emotions, etc. (Describe)

2) How can you see the “inner unmanageability” that results from your “normalization” of the behaviors associated with your indulgence in the defect which causes the pain in your life?

3) What does your “indulgence” look like as you feel the results of acting out the defect? (Describe) Role play to explain in words!

4) Describe which “archetype” you are operating out of when you indulge in the defect that causes the normalization of deviance in that area of your life or recovery where your private pain exists?

5) What does it look like when confronted with the reality of your indulgence?

Before doing the above quiz, review the (6) IP’s we have studied, the Archetypes, and Normalization of Deviance materials that are available, reach out to your recovery buddies and start your own study group for enlightenment on the topics, the work is all of ours to do.
