9th Step Assignment

NINTH STEP POD REVIEW

As we have moved from the act of “Being Clean” to the actual “Process of Recovery,” we may have read so much into our literature that we may have placed unwarranted fears or expectations on ourselves. Whether we rushed through the Steps to compete with those that we got clean with or have had an absolute dread of doing the work, we eventually find ourselves at the Ninth Step. When this occurs, we can come up against procrastination and rebelliousness.

This is where we need to stop and Pray; not just for the willingness to continue, but for as much courage as The Creator will grant us to move forward with humility and consistency. We must recognize that this is a point of no return in our spiritual growth and wellbeing that the Program has guaranteed us when we do the real work required to fulfill the empty parts in our spirit. Here our nature calls out for us to look at where something is owed to us, and at this point, if we stay with that mindset, we are co-signing The Disease’s attempt to stunt our growth.

This is the point where our newfound humility becomes our shield from our diseased thinking so we can continue on the spiritual path that The Creator’s grace has placed us on, and look to the scouts( Predecessors/Sponsors ) for continued direction.

The understanding that we may never complete the Amends Process; should not discourage us from doing our best to keep making them whenever and wherever we can. The Creator presents us with opportunities to do so. But in the meantime, when we are thorough, our behavior will have been altered to reflect the spiritual path offered to us, should we continue to walk in it.

THREE QUESTIONS FOR POD REVIEW:

1. What have I done to resolve the spiritual debt incurred from the last time I begged The Creator for relief?

2. How was the fearful expectation compared to the reality of making amends, and being genuinely humbled during the process?

3. How do we deal with the “3 Rs in the Ninth Step?

Resolution- The course of action

Restoration- Make it whole again

Restitution- (Spiritually) Giving it back

2ND SESSION:

1). Are you still committed to the change that needs to occur for your dreams to take place?

3RD SESSION:

1). What does the process of following through on amends mean to you?

2). How do we follow through on our amends after making them?

3). How do we know if our amends have made things right?

4th SESSION:

1.) How am I making amends to myself to become a better person?

(a) Spiritually

(b) Emotionally

(c) Mentally

(d) Physically

(e) Financially

These are just a few of the questions that we must answer on our journey through the 9th step. We must ask these questions beyond the Step Working Guide for the real growth and acceptance to take hold in our spirits as we come to grips with our wellbeing and the wellbeing of those for whom we love and care. The self-love that we learned to give can now be given to others as well.
